May/June Birthday Lunch

Every two months we have a birthday lunch to celebrate all the Relief Society Sister's birthdays from that month. Here's a fun picture of several of us at Taylia Olsen's house.

Shanghai Wild Insect Kingdom Class Trip

I was able to attend a field trip with Eve to the Shanghai Wild Insect Kingdom. It's a cute little museum, that although it is supposed to be a bug museum, had far more animals than insects. We still had a blast, so here are some fun pictures of Eve and her class.

Eve and Pareesa (they are inseparable)

Waiting for McDonald's at the mall after the museum.

They taught this lizard to play dead. It was pretty funny. Then, true to Chinese fashion, they put it on a little boy's head! Eve's classmate was none too happy about having a lizard on his head.
Spider on the ceiling. Cooper was worried that is was real. :)

Sorry it's a bit blurry. This is me with Eve and her best friend, Pareesa.

Funny Chinglish

It's a little blury, but I liked this one for the bump on the circle guy's head.
Try, try, try to be civilized and for crying out loud, Contribute!!!
This is a restaurant's name: "Smart Noshery Makes you Slobber"
The kids didn't understand why I stopped the car for this picture. I was DYING!

Mopping the Street

Here's a short little blip about Chinese cleaning habits. I couldn't even begin to describe the filth in Shanghai. Public bathrooms are atrocious! They don't believe in putting used toilet paper in the toilet, because they don't want to stop up the plumbing. So, they put all used toilet paper in an open trashcan next to the toilet. It doesn't matter whether you have done Number 1 or Number 2, all paper goes in the trashcan. This, of course, it so completely unacceptable that I cannot even put into words the feeling one gets in a public bathroom. Having said that, a few weeks ago I witnessed a worker mopping THE STREET! I was so completely amazed that I had to take a picture for proof.

Supermarket Deli in Shanghai

The other day we were preparing for a church picnic. I was at the local grocery store, Carrefour, shopping for the event. If I were Stateside, I would head to the deli, pick out some lunch meat, maybe a potato salad or macaroni salad, and some great bread to make sandwiches with. Instead, I found the following to be completely, utterly unappetizing, so say the least:

Pickled Fish Skin

Seaweed Salad!! Do I have something green stuck in my teeth???

Rotisserie Chicken, Shanghai Style!
Fish Balls, Maybe??

Deli Cart, with made to order Carry-Out
Egg squares, anyone?

Barbecued Chicken, I think...

So, I decided to stick with good old homemade picnic items. We had peanut butter and nutella sanwiches with an American Style pasta salad, and of course, Diet Coke to drink! :)
