Chicken in Shanghai

Finding a nice big plump chicken in Shanghai isn't hard to do, if you don't mind that it's still alive! On almost any corner you can find a little guy with 10 chickens stuffed into a cage on the back of his bicycle. If you don't want to do the killin' 'n' cleanin' yourself, don't worry, he'll do it for you! Feathers plucked and all. Now I don't know about everyone else, but I just don't want to watch my meal killed right before my eyes. So, I stick to the safe side and buy my fowl prepackaged at the supermarket. However, finding a nice, plump fowl at the supermarket can be tricky. Usually they are skinny and bony. So, when I finally found a chicken that thought was possibly big enough to roast whole, I was ecstatic! The family really loves Aunt Rebecca's recipe for rosemary chicken, cooked in our special pottery that Grandma and Grandpa Cannon bought for us in Toquerville, UT. Needless to say, when I pulled the chicken out of the factory sealed packaging, I had a big surprise. My first thought was: "What would Aunt Kathy do with this bird?" Aunt Kathy hates touching fowl with her bare hands, so I had a chuckle thinking about how she would react to this bird. Take a gander at the picture... HEHEHE, a gander..... I did end up having to chop off the head and the feet before cooking it. Everyone in the house had a great time watching me do it. So, in the end, I guess I would have ended up with the same outcome if I had gotten my bird fresh off the street!
